About Me

About Me

Bina Rumana
Solicitor

After qualifying as solicitor and practising for a number of years, I decided to set up as a Freelance Solicitor, as it gives me the flexibility to work in the best way suited to myself, my business and most importantly my client’s individual requirements.

It also allows me to provide a high-quality service without passing on the large overhead costs associated with traditional law firms. My client’s have the comfort knowing that I will be dealing with their matter from start to finish and they will always be able to contact me directly.

I break away from the structure where clients have to constantly ring reception and leave messages for someone to get back to them or liaise with a number of secretaries / paralegals / solicitors to get updates about their matter.

On 25 November 2019, the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) introduced new regulations to allow solicitors to work and offer services to the public in different ways, outside of the traditional legal firm setting. Prior to that date solicitors could only practice as part of a regulated firm, either in partnership or as sole practitioners.

The change now allows qualified experienced solicitors to operate as sole traders rather than being employed by a law firm or operating as a sole practice.

All Solicitors continue to be regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) and are bound by the SRA principles; whereby you must act:

  1. in a way that upholds the constitutional principle of the rule of law, and proper administration of justice;
  2. in a way that upholds the public trust and confidence in the solicitors’ profession and legal services provided by authorised persons;
  3. with independence;
  4. with honesty;
  5. with integrity;
  6. in a way that encourages equality, diversity, and inclusion;
  7. in the best interest of each client.

Liability

As a Freelance Solicitor carrying out non-reserved and reserved legal services I am required to obtain adequate and appropriate Professional Indemnity Insurance. My liability limit is £500,000. I am not required to meet the SRA’s minimum terms and conditions with regard to Professional Indemnity Insurance. You may be barred from making claims against the Compensation Fund if there is a problem with your legal matter.

Please note the SRA maintains a compensation fund for client protection on specific situations. For further information please visit www.sra.org.uk
